The client was a leader in the technology market. They have a set of capabilities and technologies relating to the monitoring and analysis of the operational data of transport systems. The client would like to get a better understanding of public transport authorities (PTAs), public transport operators (PTOs) and companies running public transport systems (PTSs) as potential partners to further its technology offering for this market. It is targeting organizations with significant operations, technology focus and unresolved challenges on timing and coordination.
The deliverable was in the form of an excel that contained the following data on each PTA: Operational activity and volume, e.g. trains and busses run, ticketing, operational schedules. Ticketing, scheduling, and maintenance data Breakdown data Recovery data Current technology deployment- sensors, videos, computerized systems Existing processes for managing data and conducting analytics Existing technology relationships in related areas Incentives for implementing this system- e.g. fines for failing to meet standards etc. Openness to partnership in this area
We conducted research studies on the market in each of the top 50 largest cities in the world In the process we conducted interviews with people from the Operations and IT Department in the Public Transport Authorities and Operators across the 50 cities, as required. We spoke to industry experts as well. We also got information from relevant secondary sources (annual reports, performance reports and company websites). Analysis was done based on comparison of common KPIs and technologies used across all the PTAs.
The client was pleased with the report and used the information to target the most suitable authority.
